Finding the Best Deals on Vacation Home and Villa Rentals

Renting a vacation home or villa is a smart way to travel. Having your own private bedroom, a living room and a kitchen is a blessing for most families on vacation nowadays. The tradition of staying at a one room hotel is starting to become a thing of the past, giving way to spacious accommodations that people now crave and desire while on vacation.

The myths that you need to bring your home linens and towels with you are just that, myths. The homes and villas are fully equipped with all the bed linens, some even have an spare set and bath and wash towels are also provided. Towels you should bring would be beach towels for the pool or a visit to the beach. You should also bring your pillow if you are used to sleeping on it, it will add comfort to your sleep.

The homes and villas are fully furnished and the kitchens have all of the major appliances as well as small appliances such as a toaster, coffee and tea maker, pots and pans as well as plates and silverware. Food is not included, but some resorts offer a “pre-shopping” call ahead and they will go shopping for you with a list you provide for a fee. Just remember, you are in vacation, so simple meals like breakfast or packing a lunch for an excursion for the day should be the purpose of the kitchen.

For the exchange of roomy accommodations you do have to give up something and that is maid service. Many resorts or homes charge a cleaning fee if you stay less than 5 nights, this is a separate fee to insure your home is professionally cleaned after your departure. You do pay for this at a hotel, it is included in the price of your reservation or in a “resort fee” so you really don’t get it for free. We have been many times and a quick pick up at night or first thing int the morning keeps things relatively in order for your stay. Many resorts offer a mid-week cleaning, check with your resort to see if it is offered.

Privacy is the best part of renting a home or villa. The kids get their respective bedrooms and the rest of the family can enjoy the privacy of a master bath complete with it’s own bathroom. You also have a living room, outdoor area and the grounds of the property as well to enjoy. Keep in mind, a typical hotel room offers a small 500-700 sf. space shared by everyone in your family, versus a whole home for rent.

Where do you rent homes? There are a few ways to rent. The first being with a private owner, this is common, but offers a lot of room for cancellation or other issues. Most private owners own one or two properties and manage them on their own, if you happen to rent their home and don’t like it, there are not many alternatives for you to turn to. Also, with the increasing amount of forclosures and non-payment of loans, you could be setting yourself up with no place to stay should something happen to the home before your vacation. The other danger is many of these owners don’t have a management company manage their home either because they cannot afford it or that the home may not meet the standards of the company.

Professional management companies manage homes that they own plus homes that are privately owned. Many of the owners are investors and allow the management company to keep their property up to standards through a fee. When you use a professional management firm these companies sometimes have hundreds of homes at their disposal, so if the issue arises that you are unhappy, there are alternatives. These companies usually have an office that is open for your convenience which may offer additional service for your stay as well. Many have condominium resorts and use of the resort facilities is part of the deal, even if you have a private pool home.

All in all, the major hotels have seen the shift in how people are traveling and have been adjusting. Families don’t want to be overcrowded in a single small room anymore and they want value for their money they have worked hard for to go on vacation. Many resorts now offer suites and have combined rooms to make multi-bedroom suites or have added additions to their properties to accommodate guests expectations. Once you do rent a spacious villa or pool home, you’ll never want to stay in a hotel room again.
