East coast Lake Tahoe type August vacation idea?
I am looking to go on vacation with my husband in the East Coast this August and would love to go to a Lake Tahoe type of place. I dont want to fly all the way out to Cali but does anyone know if there are any good vacation spots on the East coast with lots of water sports, spas, casinos and all-inclusive hotels? Thnx!!!!!

I have two recommendations for you – first is Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. It’s New Hampshire’s largest lake and there’s a ton of watersports there. France’s President Sarkozy satyed there last year I think (at a friends private mansion). Not sure about all-inclusive hotels, but try this link: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/index.html

Second suggestion is the Thousand Islands region of Upstate New York (bordering Canada). It’s on the St Lawrence River. Here’s a link to the wikipedia entry:

and here’s a place to stay with other links:

I don’t know about casion options in each area, but I’m sure you can do a quick google search.

Good Luck!

The problem here is one word – casinos. The only casinos on the East Coast are in either Atlantic City, NJ or in Connecticut. The ones in Atlantic City are on the beach, but you’re certainly not going to get a Tahoe type experience there!

There are three casino resorts in Connecticut, but they are not on the water – they’re in the woods (although they are very close to the beaches in South Rhode Island and CT). They are all beautiful upscale places with great casinos, spas, entertainment, restaurants, pools, golf courses, etc. They are:

1. Foxwoods – this was the first one built in CT.

2. Mohegan Sun – beautiful!

3. MGM Grand at Foxwoods – brand spanking new!

If you can do without a casino and mostly want the lake atmosphere and the water sports, I’d suggest The Sagamore resort on Lake George in the adirondack mountains in upperstate New York. This is a gorgeous resort on it’s own little island on this enormous lake surrounded by a bazillion things to do. The only problem might be getting a reservation this late as August is when the thoroughbreds race at Saratoga (also a REALLY fun thing to do), and all the hotels fill up very quickly. If you could go during the first two weeks of September you’d have a better chance (and it would be much less expensive as well).

Hope this helps!
